{The note isn't a mystery, but Aragorn smiles at the fact that it is unsigned. If Thranduil thinks he will see less of him, he is sorely mistaken. After the curse, he has decided, quite firmly, that he will protect the Elven King and see him to happiness somehow. No matter how long it takes.}
[Glorfindel's expression is serious, this is not a social call but he looks on edge, right now he's attempting to keep Maglor from doing something horrible and he needs help.]
Maedhros has gone missing and I need to know if you are aware if he and Thranduil have crossed the paths. Have you heard anything?
{His attention is fixed on Glorfindel the moment he hears the tone of his voice. Maedhros...missing?}
Thranduil has spent several nights with me in my home. He and Ann let themselves in a few nights ago and I see no reason he has to return to the forest unless he wishes to.
I can promise you he has not encountered Maedhros here.
He is not in a good state. I found him heading towards the forest, with a sword.
[Glorfindel is relieved by what Aragorn tells him though, letting out a breath. There is still a worry of what Maglor may do but at least his worst fear that there had already been an encounter is put to rest.]
Keep him there, we will not tell this to Maglor, in case he decides not to listen to me and go to the forest.
I am going to do everything I can to find Maedhros. Apparently he vanished from the house and Maglor cannot find him. His belongings are still here so hopefully we will find him.
I see why you feared the worst. {His heart skips a beat at what could have happened.} Thank you for intervening. Considering how young Maedhros is, Maglor will feel even more guilty for losing him.
{Not that it makes logical sense. But madness and paranoia are rarely logical.}
Thranduil has his own demons to contend with, I think. Centuries have passed for him. But our friendship seems to strengthen in the future.
{A nice surprise for him. No matter what, he knows the Elven King has a good heart and he respects him for all he has endured and how stubbornly he guards his people.}
I will request he stays longer if he comments about leaving. {His brow furrows thoughtfully.} I believe the same happened to Thranduil...? For a week? He could return.
[Glorfindel doesn't need to elaborate what could have happened. Whether it was Thranduil or Maglor who was slain, it would have had horrible consequences to say the least. ]
He blames himself but I have tried to tell him that people do return but I do not believe he is in a state to truly listen. But I will do my best to calm him down, just- [He saw the same madness in Feanor, he saw how much destruction it caused and he refuses to let that happen. Not again.][Glorfindel looks slightly uneasy, if Maedhros comes back with knowledge of the Oath or the Doriath kinslaying, that could cause problems.]
Yes, it could. {The situation only seems to become more complex by the moment, but he knows better than to panic.} Let us focus on what we know now. You have a talent for offering comfort, Anor. Tell him as many times as it takes that he should not blame himself.
[Glorfindel looks less on edge now, smiling softly even.]
I will do so and I will do my best to keep you updated as to what is happening. For now I have gotten him to promise to not go into the forest or seek Thranduil out.
That is good enough for the time being. Thank you for your quick thinking. {He really doesn't want to see another war.} Are you well? You are welcome at my home too.
I am alright. I just do not wish to see yet another kinslaying before my eyes. Last time I stood by and did nothing but I will not make the same mistake again.
[Glorfindel took a deep breath but smiled at the concern.]
I may come over after Thranduil leaves then, if you would not mind the company.
[Aragorn will find that there is a wrapped box on his doorstep. Atop the gold and white wrapped box is a card. Written in elegant Japanese kanji is the word "thank you" on the front with "thank you" written in English underneath. Inside the card reads in English:
Thank you for everything you've done and continue to do for me.
- Ritsuka Aoyagi
P.S. It's called a katana, but it's actually much bigger than this.
It's not very long, and it's not very eloquent, mostly because Ritsuka isn't very good at that sort of thing.
{The letter opener will be cherished. Aragorn has never seen its like and he sets it on his desk, ready to be used should he receive a letter or other messages. Then he sets out to visit Ritsuka.
Once he is allowed into the house, he finds the cat-boy and gently rests a hand on the top of his head, over his ears.}
[He blushes at the gentle touch, still not used to it, despite everyone being so prone to it in Ruby City. His ears bend back and his tail swishes. At the elvish word, his ears perk.]
I... I'm really glad. I didn't know if you would... like I mean... I don't... think I could give you a real sword, I don't... I mean that seems like something you'd have to pick out on your own, right?
{Ritsuka gives his good heart away by such reactions. Aragorn sits down so that he is more on the boy's level, grey eyes filled with warmth.}
I have a sword of my own and I wouldn't want you handling something that is meant for violence. {There is something much more endearing about a letter opener. It's something he can look at and use without thinking of battle.} And since I didn't have a letter opener...
[It's a heart he's terrified of showing. It's a heart that's been hurt so often despite being so young. He looks at Aragorn and his ears bend down.]
Uh... a friend of yours suggested the sword... I sort of... well good. I'm glad you don't have one. [But then again, they don't really get mail...] The katana is a sword from my country, warriors called samurai are the most famous for using them.
A friend...? {He tries to keep his voice light. Ritsuka has been through too much and he doesn't want to disturb him. Aragorn is well-aware of their height and size difference. It would be easy for him to seem imposing.}
I expect there are interesting techniques involved. The blade seems like it would be very thin.
Ned Stark? Yes, he is a good Man. I would be glad to call him friend. {He is touched that Eddard spoke to Ritsuka about him.} Do you recall when the monster attacked the city? He was badly injured and I reset the bones of his legs.
Uh... yeah, him... I guess. I do, though thankfully the manor wasn't affected too badly. [Which, since Ritsuka was still healing, he would literally have to be carried to safety.] Ouch... he's... okay now though, right?
Really? They look more like Western- I mean... uh, things like long swords though, right?
Aragorn, I've contacted the Lady Galadriel for help as well but we need you at the manor. Osamu was attacked, she needs treated properly. Hurry, if you will.
